England trip 2015Posted by Marie-Rose Mon, June 15, 2015 20:26:39
Today we were suposed to go out to the Calf of man and Chicken Rock lighthouse but because of the wind the sea was too rough to get us out which I was really disapointed about but unfortunately nothing to do about it.
So we decided to find a way to get as close to the lighthouse from ashore to get a few shots of the lighthouse despite not getting out. And we were lucky we found a place where we could see the Chicken Rock lighthouse a bit! But unfortunately no luck for those of the Calf of Man lighthouses. But because of the bad weather (rain) we had to go back in time before we had the rain on us. But we were not back in time before the rain.

So far the boat trip to the calf of man and chicken rock lighthouse was planned for tomorrow as that would be the better day so far.
So today we went to do some sightseeing around the south of the isle of man.
We first went to the Sound Cafe and visitor centre to have a look at the Island. We had hoped to catch a glimp of the lighthouses but unfortunately no real luck. We did some more walking.
In the afternoon we went to walk to Milners'Tower and relaxed a bit in the evening.

Today we took the 11 AM ferry to the Isle of Man from liverpool. It was a sunny day. At 2 PM we arrived at the Douglas harbour. From here our lighthouse hunting trip could really begin.
The first stop was the Douglas Head Lighthouse.
From there up to the Langeness lighthouse and then to Port Erin, where we are staying

Today we had to get up early as we are going to take the 10 AM ferry at Duinkerken. The day started rainy. We arrived well at the Dover and from here our trip to Liverpool could begin.
It took us 2hrs longer then planned because of a lot of traffic jams. In the evening after checking in in our b&b we went to the Hale Head lighthouse. It was raining so didn't spent too much time out there!
Tomorrow we are going to the Isle of Man.

When we woke up this morning it looked like it was going to be a lovely day at least with no rain. So we went to the lighthouse in the hope to get a few shots with something else then a grey sky. And we had a bit of luck. We had a guided tour of the lighthouse with a former lighthousekeeper at 11AM. It was 12.30 by the time we had said goodbye and then went to the lighthouse cafe to get something to eat. Afterwards we had visited the visitorcentre and took a guided tour of the woll mill, which both were interesting. By that time it already started raining again and so we returned to the bird obervatory where we were staying. Today was our last day as we were returning by ferry next morning. The ferry is going to leave earlier tomorrow probably because of the bad weather.

When we woke up this morning it was already raining. Our plans were exploring the Island on foot and going to the lighthouse. But because it was so pooring we decided to take the car to explore the Island. Which off course by car doesn't take you that much time. But anyway we are hoping that it gets better tomorrow so we can do a guided tour of the lighthouse and take some nice shots of the lighthouse. The rest of the day we took it easy.

Today we took the 10.30AM ferry to North Ronaldsay. When we went to the ticket office she told us if it was a problem that the car would be taken off the boat by a crane? Euhm I guess not :-)
We were the only ones with car. There was a lot of cargo that needed to come along on the boat.
It was 2.30pm when we arrived at North Ronaldsay what was late as the boat first had to stop along Papa westray to load off the cargo there. Once arrived on the Island we went to the Bird observatory where we were staying. And didn't do much anymore. As we are staying here until Friday. We went for a walk in the evening after dinner.

This morning we took the 9.30AM ferry at Gill's bay to St Margaret's Hope. Just about an hour crossing. You can see the stroma lighthouse from the boat but unfortunately the weather wasn't good so no useful shots of the lighthouse possible.
Once we arrived there we first went to Hoxa Head to see the remains of the war artifacts. We were lucky as it stopped raining by then.
From there we drove to where it is possible to see the Heliar Holm and copinsay lighthouse. Here it was the same because of the bad weather not good to take pictures.
And then off to our b&b, there we mentioned going to the brough of Birsay lighthouse but she tod us that wasn't going to be possible because they were working on the causeway. But we decided to go and see for ourselves. But when we arrived there we were lucky as the causeway was open en we could cross the causeway (which is only accessible at low tide). So we crossed the causeway and walked up to the lighthouse.
